Engineering Expertise in Action: Supporting ICU Medical

At EPI, we power life in more ways than one.

From schools and shopping centers to grocery stores, restaurants, and medical facilities, our solutions support the infrastructure behind the spaces people rely on every day.

January 2025, our distributor partner, Lonestar Electric Supply – Austin, contacted us to engineer a custom solution for Rosendin Electric on the ICU Medical project in Round Rock, Texas.

The Custom Solution

The project called for a NEMA 12 stainless steel flanged lay-in wireway designed to wrap around the entire perimeter of a designated “clean room” inside the ICU Medical facility, to provide power to equipment which manufactures medical bags used for blood and IV solutions.

Clean rooms in medical facilities are highly controlled environments designed to maintain extremely low levels of contaminants such as dust, airborne microbes, and chemical vapors. Every component installed within that space must support sterility and cleanliness standards.

For this reason, stainless steel was essential. Its durability, corrosion resistance, and non-porous surface help prevent bacterial growth and support the integrity of the clean room environment.

Engineering Support from Concept to Completion

From the early planning stages, EPI’s engineering team worked closely with Lonestar Electric Supply and Rosendin Electric to evaluate the best approach for design, layout, and installation.

Throughout the project’s life span, our engineering team conducted multiple site visits for a few different reasons, such as to:

  • Confirm field measurements and
    verify clearances
  • Ensure proper fit and alignment
  • Address layout challenges

This hands-on approach minimized risk and ensured the final product performed as intended.

While the size, shape, and spacing requirements presented challenges, we were prepared to solve them.

Timeline & Execution

Lonestar Electric Supply first contacted EPI in December 2024. Due to our annual holiday closure, a formal quote was delivered in January. Engineering, fabrication, and coordination followed, and the project was completed and installed by May, roughly a four-month timeline from engineering consulting meeting to final installation.

For a fully customized, room-wrapping stainless steel wireway system in a controlled medical environment, this timeline reflects both collaboration and execution efficiency.

Collaboration That Delivers

This project highlights the value of a strong partnership with all parties involved such as the distributor and the contractor.

Lonestar Electric Supply trusted EPI to provide not only manufacturing capabilities, but engineering guidance. Rosendin relied on precise fabrication and accurate field validation. Together, through communication and coordinated effort, we delivered a solution that met both functional and environmental demands.

At EPI, we don’t just build products. We provide engineering-backed solutions that help our distributor partners serve their customers with confidence.
