We are pleased to report that several market areas in Texas are doing very well in the commercial construction sector. The type of products most used for this outside of NEMA 1 and NEMA 3 enclosures and wireway is Secondary Main Bussed Enclosures and Secondary Bussed Wireway. These products are commonly referred to as “switch-gear”.

The product we’re reporting on is the Secondary Pad-Mounted Main Bussed Enclosure. This product is typically used in the commercial sector with the construction of malls, strip centers, and other multi-tenant facilities. The Secondary Pad-Mounted Main Bussed Enclosure provides the owner with a switchgear product that allows the secondary connection from the Main Transformer to our Bussed Enclosure. More than one entry may be needed depending on the scale of the project.

The Secondary Pad-Mounted Bussed Enclosure is typically energized by the utility company and then allows main power through an electrical duct connected to the Transformer. The utility conductors are typically installed by the utility to our stair-stepped copper bussing. This, in turn, energizes the entire length of bussing to allow custom installed lugs and conductors to provide service to distant switches and other controls.

The design of the product is typically NEMA TYPE 3 and allows for an outdoor installation. Construction is made up of a seam-free body, drip-shield top, and removable covers in the front with handles and padlocking tongues. Additionally, stair-step bracing at appropriate intervals is installed to receive 600-volt mounting insulators that will support the correct size copper bussing. Both three and single phase bussed products are available. The orientation of bussing can be either top or bottom entry. Bus sizing is based on the NEMA formula of one square inch cross-section of CD 110 copper is equal to 1,000amps.

Recent applications that are of interest are a 10,000 amp Padmounted Three Phase Bussed Entry for the Arlington Independent School District Multi-purpose Educational Building, an 8,000 amp Padmounted Three Phase Bussed Entry for the120 Ninth Street Apartments and Parking Garage Project in San Antonio, Texas. Over one and a half million amps of power have been provided by EPI to many utility projects.

Many other provisions exist to complete the product such as covers with provisions for padlocking, intermediate supports, and priming and painting of the enclosure. We engineer and manufacture the best and safest products to be a part of the electrical distribution system of power.
